Informatica Powercenter Express Architecture

Powercenter Express Architecture

Informatica Domain is the fundamental administrative unit in Informatica. Application clients, application services, and repositories are components that run within the Informatica domain.
Services for the domain include the Service Manager and a set of application services:

Service Manager  manages all domain operations. It runs the application services and performs domain functions on each node in the domain like authentication, authorization, and logging.

Application Services represent server-based functionality, such as the Model Repository Service and the Data Integration Service.
Data Integration Service is an application service that performs data integration tasks like previewing data and running profiles and mappings for Informatica Developer.
Model Repository Service is an application service that manages the Model repository which is a relational database that stores the metadata for projects created in Informatica Developer. The Model repository also stores run-time and configuration information for applications that are deployed to a Data Integration Service.

Application Clients is a group of clients that you use to send requests to the Service Manager or application services.
Informatica Developer  is an application client that developers can use to design and implement data integration solutions.
Informatica Administrator  is an application client that consolidates the administrative tasks for domain objects such as services, connections, and licenses.

Repositories are a group of relational databases that store metadata about objects and processes required to handle user requests from application clients.
Model repository is a relational database that stores the metadata for projects and also stores run-time and configuration information for applications that are deployed to a Data Integration Service.
Domain configuration repository is a set of domain metadata tables stored in a relational database. Each time an administrator makes a change to the domain, the Service Manager writes the change to the domain configuration repository.
Profile warehouse is a relational database that the Data Integration Services uses to store profile results.

    1. Hi Hema,

Nice to be visiting your blog again, it has been months for me. Well this article that i’ve been waited for so long.
What is the OS where you are attempting to install the Informatica Services? Please ensure that you are on a supported and certified version.
If the issue still persists, I would suggest to download the installer again and try reinstalling as it seems to be more related to missing libraries.
Using business rules defined by the analyst, the developer can build mappings, automatically or manually, to consolidate the matched records. Automatic Consolidation: The developer can build mappings to consolidate the matched records using rules defined by the analyst.
      Hope this helps.
Awesome! Thanks for putting this all in one place. Very useful!

      Thank you,

  8. Hi There,

Allow me to show my gratitude bloggers. You guys are like unicorns. Never seen but always spreading magic. Your content is yummy. So satisfied.

I was trying to install Informatica 9.5.1 on Windows 2008 Server (R2) & got the below error. FYI, we already had Domain & tried to overwrite it.

OutPut : [ICMD_10033] Command [defineDomain] failed with error [[INFASETUP_10002] Cannot create the domain because of the following error: [PERSISTENCEAPI_0307] [DBPERSISTER_2015] Failed to upgrade the Model repository. This was caused by [PERSISTENCEAPI_0307] [DBPERSISTER_0017] Failed to create table '"dbo".PO_PREFERENCEGROUP.' Verify that a table with the same name does not exist and that the database user has sufficient privileges. This was caused by [informatica][SQLServer JDBC Driver][SQLServer]There is already an object named 'PO_PREFERENCEGROUP' in the database..].

It was cool to see your article pop up in my google search for the process yesterday. Great Guide.
    Keep up the good work!

    Many Thanks,

    Irene Hynes

At present we are using PC 10.1.0 on windows 2012. We want to migrate to new environment and upgrade to 10.1.1. It is not a big change on PC side but on the windows environment we are wondering if we can set up environment with a specific configuration to run Informatica better. Apar tfrom the minimum requirements found in the Installation guide I am unable to find any documentation in KB or online. Wondering if anyone have a specific advice on this.
Our environment at present have Powercenter but we want to install Power exchange, Metadata manager after that. Any suggestions are really appreciated. I started using Informatica Data quality training blog for my training practice.
